Imani Smith Reflects on Her Time at DC3
The DC3 Women's Basketball team went through its challenges, as they completed their first season under Head Coach Evan Fosha. As every team goes through their highs and lows, it's nice to hear someone's perspective that went through those moments all season long. I had the chance to chat with Imani Smith, who started at Center for the majority of the 2024-25 season, and is moving on to the Air Force Academy! We wish her the best as she serves our country, and here's what she had to say about the 2024-25 Community Christian College Women's Basketball season.
Q: Where was your basketball career before you came to Community Christian? Would you have been able to play elsewhere?
Smith: I played for Detroit Leadership Academy, then Hype, then Henry Ford Academy in Dearborn. I committed to OCC in 2020 before I found out about DC3, and then I flipped my commitment to here. I would've been able to play elsewhere, but I'm glad I came here.
Q: Who was your favorite coach to play for at Community Christian? What made them your favorite?
Smith: My favorites were both Coach Fosha and Coach Kayla [Chism]. Fosha has the same birthday as me, and never gave up on me, even when I was folding or crashing out. He was always there for me. Coach Chism always had our backs behind closed doors and in front of everyone. They never let us down, even when we let them down, I loved my coaches this year.
Q: What was your favorite moment/memory from Community Christian?
Smith: Definitely when my coach said "Imani go get the ball!" and I looked at him and said "What do I do with it?" only because that's not my position.
Q: How has Community Christian College prepared you for future schooling, on or off-the-court?
Smith: DC3 has prepared me for the future in many different ways, it taught me how to deal with adversity and the odds being against me on and off the court.
Q: If someone was thinking about enrolling at DC3 to play basketball, what would you say?
Smith: I would say do it, especially if you're not ready to leave home but pursue your career, it's a great stepping stone to get to the next level. Your experience at DC3 is all that you make of it, nobody else can change that but you.
